ABOUT DERMAL FILLERS

A variety of fillers are now on the market, and can be used in several areas of the face. They are typically temporary and can last variable lengths of time.

As we age, we lose bone and fat in the face. Bone and fat are what support the skin in the face, and when they are lost, skin begins to sag and crease. While products and procedures aimed to improve texture, color, and tone of skin can help, a comprehensive anti-aging treatment plan involves addressing this lack of support underneath the skin. Fillers help to recreate the natural, youthful structure underneath the skin.

Depending on the area of the face, one filler may be more appropriate than the next. Dr. Epstein is happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding choice of filler and whether filler is appropriate for you.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

The ideal candidates for injectable dermal fillers are women and men who have facial wrinkles and lines they want to improve. It can also help if you have naturally thin or age-related volume loss in your cheeks or lips. Dermal filler treatments at Clear Skin Dermatology are fantastic if you are looking to refresh the appearance of your face without the expense and recovery time of plastic surgery (like facelifts, eyelid lifts, brow lifts, or lip implants).

PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE

Dermal filler injections generally only take about 15 – 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being addressed. Your face will be cleaned and injection spots will be selected and marked. To decrease discomfort during the procedure, filler formulas contain a local anesthetic (lidocaine). After your treatment, you may continue your normal routine, but strenuous activity, such as exercise, should be avoided for at least 24 hours. You should be careful to not touch your face after your dermal filler injections to avoid pushing the filler into unwanted areas.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You usually experience a noticeable improvement immediately after your dermal filler injection, but you may also have mild swelling or bruising in the treated areas for around 7 – 10 days. The results of filler treatments usually can be seen for up to one year, and some patients find that their improvements last longer after 2 – 3 years of treatments. Talk to Dr. Epstein about when to book a touch-up or full injection session at Clear Skin Dermatology to sustain your results.
